Synopsis: The phenomenon of increasing smartphone addiction can be attributed to today's cutting-edge technology. Staring at glowing screens instead of exploring the vast expanse of life, people are gradually alienating themselves from the richness, depth, and loveliness of life.

LIFE SMARTPHONE was created under a CAFA course theme of ‘Recording the World with Heart.’ After exploring four different topics, Chenglin found inspiration in his own experience—his father was always frustrated by his habit of looking at his phone, believing that an artist should pay attention to life. This led him to the idea and then develop the film.
Behind The Scenes
*My first draft was inspired by the idea that Arabic numerals (1,2,3 ... 9) all seem to be looking down, so I designed a series of characters based on their outlines.
Through reflecting on his own experiences and researching real cases, he realized that smartphone addiction is not just a personal issue but a global phenomenon that can result in serious consequences (parents accidentally let their kids get killed by looking at their phones) and deserves more attention.
Diving deep into the topic, he crafted a highly exaggerated, darkly humorous, and sharply satirical narrative. With its timely subject matter and unique artistic style, the film became a viral sensation worldwide (pass 300,000,000 views within months), drawing attention from major media outlets and sweeping film festivals—including winning near 30 awards and recognition from the Oscars®.
